REFLECTION
What would you do differently?
If we had the opportunity to redo our work, we would return to our initial user interviews and have them perform a usability test on our prototype. This would have ensured that the product we are developing stemmed from our initial user research. We would do more research to get a fundamental understanding of design principles, such as hierarchy and fonts.
What would you do if you had more time?
If we had more time, we would have attempted to gain feedback at every stage of the project. We would prefer to practice participatory design to include our user group in creating the product meant for them. We would have done a lot more research as our project developed and changed over time. Our interviews at the beginning were to gain a general understanding of our user base and we would have liked to conduct more specific interviews throughout the process.
What was your biggest challenge?
The biggest challenge in our project was familiarizing ourselves with the software we had to use to create our products for every stage. We were all fairly new to using InDesign, Illustrator, and Figma, but they were necessary tools to complete every stage. We were able to pick up these skills pretty quickly. As we were creating our portfolio, we faced some challenges with Wix.
What was the most surprising thing in this project?
The most surprising thing that we encountered throughout this project was the depth and intricacies of the art world. From the outside looking in, the life of an artist or a gallery curator may seem simple and not too stressful, but after interviews and communication with our research group, we realized that there is so much more than just creating and showing art.
How did your team work together?
Our team worked together by communicating primarily through Slack. From there we would schedule weekly meetings to talk about the next steps of our project. Meeting times were often hard to figure out as most of the members had a full course load, volunteering, and work to maintain along with this project. For the most part, we agreed with each other on all steps of the process and found that we had similar ideas throughout.
